Annual feast of St. Lawrence at the shrine, Attur-Karkala

The annual feast of St. Lawrence at the shrine at Attur-Karkala is a centre of devotion to pilgrims belonging to different communities and religions.

During the feast, one can witness the devotion of the devotees of St. Lawrence attending the holy masses, queuing up and praying in front of the statue of miracles, burning candles of different shapes and sizes, having the water from the pond of miracles.This pond is in the premises of the church and is known by the name Pushkarini. It is said that the pond is always full of water. The water is believed to have tremendous healing effect and is said to have produced many miraculous healings.This feast usually takes place in the month of January for three days every year.

The holy masses are being offered in many languages which aim to enhance the faith of innumerable devotees arriving from all over the south India. The special feature of the festival is the popular belief in lighting candles for the featured three days. It is believed that if a person visits the church during the annual festival and lights a candle making a wish, the wish comes true. People from all walks of life and all religions flock to the church during the annual festival. Even on other days devotees light candles praying for the fulfillment of their wishes. Candles ranging from 1 foot-7 feet are made available for lighting. 

The annual festival of St. Lawrence Church, Attur will be held from January 25, 2015 to January 29, 2015.

25, Sunday: Masses shall be conducted from Morning 07.30 am, 11.00 am, 04.00 pm.

26, Monday:  Masses at 10.00 am (specially for children), 12.00 noon (Konkani), 03.30 pm (for sick people), 6.00 pm and last mass at 8.00 pm.

27, Tuesday: Masses at 07.30 am, 09.00 am, 10.30 am, 12.00 pm, 01.30 pm (Kannada), 03.00 pm, 04.30 pm (Konkani), 06.00 pm (Kannada, by  H.E. Bishop Francis Serrao  of Shivamogga), Night 08.00 pm and 10.00 pm, at 11.30 pm holy hour adoration by Rev. Fr. Puis D’Souza Sagar.

28, Wednesday: 06.00 am (Konkani), 8.00 am (Malaylam, by H.E. Bishop Lawerence Mukkaze, of Belthangady), 10.30 am (main feast mass by H.E Bishop Alloysuis Paul D’Souza of Mangalore, 01.00 pm (Kannada), 02.30 pm, 4.00 pm (Konkani), 05.30 pm (English), 07.00 pm, 08.30 pm (Kannada), 10.00 pm and 11.30 pm last mass.

29, Thursday: 06.30 am, 8.00 am (Konkani), 10.00 am (main mass by, H.E. Bishop Dr. Gerald Issac Lobo of Udupi), 12.30 pm, 02.30 pm, 04.00 pm (Kannada), last mass 05.30 pm and 07.30 pm.
